Huawei Ascend Mate 7 announced at IFA 2014: a mighty octa-core phablet

Now that some of the main players, Sony, HTC and Samsung, have had their press conference, it’s Huawei’s turn: today at the IFA 2014 Huawei presented the generation of their Mate series, the Huawei Ascend Mate 7. We'll update this page as we learn more, for now, this is what we have.

Huawe has stated that the device will cost 499 euros, which converts to around 650 USD, and is expected to be released in October in black, silver and gold.

Huawei took to Twitter to announce the most important features of its new 6-inch, Full-HD phablet, touting its Live Power+ feature which offers ultra long-lasting battery life. Huawei even compared it to the likes of the Galaxy Note 3 Galaxy S5 to show its superiority, announcing that it will last for 2 days before requiring a charge. The Ascend Mate 7 has a "one-touch" finger scanner meaning, unlike the Galaxy S5 scanner, you don't have to slide your finger over it. Simply touch your finger onto the device and it will instantly recognize the user.

Huawei Ascend Mate 7 specs

The Ascend Mate 7 features an octa-core Kirin 825 processor, 13 MP rear camera with Sony BSI sensor and 28mm wide angle lens, and 5 MP front facing snapper. The Mate will also include CAT 6 LTE for data speeds of up to 300mbps. It's an all-metal construction, with 5.5-inch Full-HD (1080p) display, with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage space. Sadly, no expandable memory in the form of a micro-SD slot.
